Re: The best Speccy game by Dinamic Software: vote

I am going to say: 1. West Bank. I loved this game as a child. It keeps you on your toes for hours, but it's quite fair and playable. 2. Freddy Hardest. The first part is nice once you learn not to attack the flying robots. The second part is quite fun, looking for the correct terminals and rushing ...

Re: Coincidence!

Challenge: Can you recognize any other "stolen" graphic in this loading screen that I failed to list under "adapted from" here ? I would say Heartland (the skull and the book appear in the top of the screen when playing) but I'm not sure if the Ghostbusters logo is original.

Re: Issues with emulators for Linux

Well, it may be an unpopular opinion, but I went down this road and I'd say a Speccy emulator and contemporary wide screens are inherently not compatible. Read is as "I keep my FUSE with TV3X filter in a window" :) But the problem happens because people (or emulator authors) don't scale t...

Re: Issues with emulators for Linux

Usually you do not need to compile- unless you have a specific reason. I meant, I wrote an emulator ( here ) but I am only providing binaries for Windows. But it's mainly for Linux (I almost only use it in Linux), it's got a nice self-detecting fullscreen mode, works nicely with joysticks etc, emul...

Re: Issues with emulators for Linux

Hi,

I understand that an emulator for Linux that you have to compile yourself is out of the question, right? Or one that has no GUI.

Re: Games you played the most with friends?

Now I recall Gauntlet. It was fun but also sometimes would lead to us bickering because we would go in different directions and put the other in a difficult situation. (BTW, in my emulator I'm mapping the extra gamepad buttons to Gauntlet's magic keys...) Also Decathlon. A friend destroyed a joystic...

Re: +2B sound output problem

Turns out it was the screw in the cassette player board. I tightened the screw, and added some solder on the side. Now it sounds clean again, and tapes seem to load more reliably.

Re: Poke to hide "Program:, Bytes:" tape loading prompts

Actually the POKE is:

POKE 5+PEEK 23631+256*PEEK23632,111

The value of 5+PEEK 23631+256*PEEK 23632 is usually 23739. Unless you've got a Microdrive.

+2B sound output problem

Hi all! So, since a week or so, I've noticed that the sound output on my +2B is very distorted. It is a Spanish model, board Z70833 Issue 2 I think, because it has the capacitor between pins 10 and 11 of the Z80. The distortion affects the ULA sound only. The EAR input is not affected, and I think t...

Re: Some gigascreen game prototype: need input

I tried it on SpecIde, both on --average (gigascreen, no flicker) and --nodoublescan --sync (50Hz mode, vertical sync enabled), on a LED TV and the flicker is really minimum. The game looks wonderful.

Congratulations!

And... fixed.

I've been comparing how the tunes sound in SpecIde with the video from The Spectrum Show Ep 103, and they quite match now.

I'll upload binaries tomorrow. :D

Re: Fuller Box & Fuller Orator support

The Fuller Box unit I have has an onboard crystal that's missing its markings but I've measured it as the aforementioned 1.638190MHz. I've not observed any contention related slowdown effects on real hardware. Thanks! This is a quite important piece of info: The Fuller Box clock is then an unconten...

Hi!

Does this happen in all Z80 models, or just NEC? I'm curious.

I'll try later to execute on my machines. Any suggestion or request?

Re: If the ZX Spectrum commercial era was still going...

On 2020 there is a worldwide shortage of chips caused by ZX fans. These fans are buying higher-end sound cards because they need distortion-free high speed transfers to load the new gigabyte-sized games through the EAR socket.

Flunky II just hit the stores.
