I can manage that now - I thought I was hitting my head on the spikes near the top, but turns out I just wasn't accurate enough jumping over the middle red... thing.

Screen 5 is giving me a headache though - and having watched a walkthrough it seems it's impossible to complete the game, as screen 9 never ends.

Since it was discussed here and is only 5 screens, I had to complete Winer Milly. On completion it suggests to keep an eye out for the next release in the series, and in true Mire Mare fashion, it's a game that never materialised by the looks of it.

Remember it's all in BASIC, and not at all bad for it. Be honest - if you did this BITD you'd have felt like a GOD!

Hehe. If the telephone is the problem, you have to jump from on top of the brick wall. You can't get over it from the same height.

this. i tried, and tried, and tried. that's if i even get there, because jumping onto the central platform is hard too. i realised than my MM skills are doing the bad service for me here, but kept trying to do it "Manic Miner" way…

Wait. Isn't that how people do it in MM already?

It is how I do it, but you don't have to do it that way. In MM, you can jump over the honker from the same platform. That isn't possible in Winer Milly (at least I haven't managed it), so it's more true to life in that sense. I would only expect to be able to jump over an giant animated patrolling telephone by doing so from atop a brick wall.

I got to the imaginatively titled second screen, thought "oh god, more of the same?" and turned it off. But at least you don't have to redo the whole thing if you die on your way back from collecting the objects.

Following this post:
dfzx wrote: Sun May 19, 2024 9:42 am I wrote a game a few years back called Wonky One Key, which is a 2D platormer with a single control key. It works exactly as you describe: if any part of the player's sprite is on one of the jump pads, the space key invokes a jump; otherwise the space key invokes a change in direction.
I've been playing this today, it's really tricky, any advance on the third level?

Ace game - I finished it. There's only five screens so you're nearly there.

, it's funny how things suddenly reappear. It's over 5 years since I wrote that.

There's a thread on the game here, including the bugs/cheats and walkthough.

I had another go and couldn't even get off the second screen. I've only played it on my phone so far though so I'm blaming my terrible reaction times on the tiny screen.

What emulator do you use on your phone? Spectaculator no longer works on my phone since I updated to Android 14. :(

Really? I'm on 14 and it still works. Very occasionally it will shut down if it encounters a zip file it doesn't like, but I think it did that on previous versions too.

Following the announcement from Rishi Sunak, this might be a suitable title to enjoy:

Liberals always seem to win that lol so not very accurate :)

That's the best news I've heard all year though! I was expecting him to wait until he had been in office for 2 years before calling it (so October then). I guess he wants to get his kids enrolled in school in California for the start of the next school year lol :)

EDIT: Nope, not played that one... I was thinking of this where the Liberals always seemed to win the election after my first term.

Is probably more appropriate for UK politics although the sum involved is far too low

UK Track and Trace system, which barely did its job, maybe they needed to hire more consultants at £1000 a day: £22Bn https://committees.parliament.uk/commit ... -lockdown/

As a comparison, something most people think was probably very expensive

Hey! We only spent £6 billion on the national ID card scheme that took 30 minutes after release to be faked, then get scrapped.

The government has announced that every man, woman and child must install @sludge's new game - even though it was clearly thrown together in a hurry, hasn't been fully tested, and likely contains malware from Bill Gates ;)

Paddy, by Dollar$oft

I'd forgotten about this MIA that @blueowl0708 brought to our attention in 2018, after Si Owen found it in the music section of a charity shop. It looks like Richard Stevenson's first game, and while that obviously shows, there's a lot going for it IMO: spirit of the speccy charm, in-game beeper music, big sprites, speccy difficulty but only 5 screens so you actually have a chance at finishing it.

It's got a few quirks: You're supposed to LOAD it with LOAD""CODE, but it seems to work with just LOAD"". If you want to use keys it needs the issue 2 keyboard setting (keys caps, Z, X), otherwise just use Kempston.
