Reviews for Evil Crown (#1680)

It certainly looks the part with its nicely detailed graphics and from the screenshots alone I felt this was going to be an interesting game to play. However, it proved not to be as the gameplay turned out to be utterly repetitive and largely useless. The icons you fiddle with during the game seem to have no real input and indeed two of them takes you to a different screen, and when you return to the icons all the changes you make are wiped out. Then we get the joust which involves you mainly moving a crosshair to aim at your opponent. I was able to get one or two hits on him and knocked him off once but I usually end up getting out-classed which once that happens you’re done for. Then it’s harvest time, no real idea what happens here, but in two previous attempts the militia ate all the food and the game seemed to be over, on my third go I’ve at least survived three years by luck and pure chance but that’s enough for me. This could have been a fun little game to play, but it’s not, instead it’s bland, repetitive and pointless. And this was 10 quid in 1985, talk about an overpriced piece of junk. Immensely disappointing.
