Reviews for El Misterio del Nilo (#3240)

Loosely based on the Jewel Of The Nile movie starring Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas, this is an arcade adventure where each screen is a clever challenge for the player.

You have to lead three characters, by controlling each one of them at a time, along a dangerous path starting in the city of Luxor, Egypt, in order to thwart the dastardly plan of the evil Governor of Assuan, who wants to enslave the free tribes of the Nile.

The game is certainly not recommended for the casual player and easily frustrated people since a lot of patience will be required to negotiate the dangers which lie ahead. You are outnumbered and without careful planning the minions of the Governor will soon end your adventure.

Howewer, like all games of this kind, your efforts will be rewarded since you won't be doing any routine tasks, thus keeping the player's attention alive. The pleasing cartoon graphics and the distinct Oriental atmosphere add a lovely touch to an already good title.

1987 Zigurat Software (Spain)
by Fernando Rada Briega, Camilo Cela Elizagarate and Carlos Granados Martinez (Made in Spain team).

I'm not a big fan of Spanish games but this one is one of their best games around.
Based on the movie 'Jewel of the Nile', the action is divided by three different characters, all with different abilities. You must chose carefully which character to use in order to complete each small task. Once completed you move to next. The action happens in different locations, some very beautiful and quite appealing, there is also a slight shot 'em up element, with each character having it's own weapon of choice, a gun, bombs or an umbrella.
While difficult in some parts (like most Spanish games) it's a matter of getting used to it and finding the way to do something so you can move on.

Very nice game.

Are you skillful enough to control up to three characters simultaneously through bullets and bombs galore? Well, I'm not. The concept was original, something usually implemented in arcade/adventure's not in action games, graphics are nice, playability is not bad - but it's not for me.

Made in Spain, the company behind Sir Fred, made in 1987 this entertainig game with some original touches.

'Strongly' based on the film 'The Jewel of the Nile' starring Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner and Danny De Vito, tells the adventures of two american tourists, Christine and Michael (Janet and Navada in the Firebird re-release), who find themselves involved in problems when come across al-Hasan and tried to help him. This young arab is searching evidences to accuse the evil Abu-Sahl who wants to take over the country.

You start in the city of Luxor. Then the Mut desert, the town of Farsut, the train, the Jarga military complex where you'll find the evidences and finally the border outpost where you can escape from the country.

You can control Christine, Michael or al-Hasan separately. And take advantage of their characteristics. Chistine throw bombs, Michael has a gun and al-Hasan has his own umbrella as a weapon. When you control one of them, the others will follow you, they have 'their own intelligence' as the instructions says.

Using every character at the precise moment is the key to progress in the game. In every screen, you'll pass if you get rid of all the enemies, some of them sheltered behind mortars or machine guns.

Some screens are really difficult to pass, but in general it's a nice game with cute and detailed graphics. The characters are cartoonish style but their movement it's a bit slow, what complicates the action of the game
