This 'imitation' of the classic coin-op racing game is one of the best games of its type for the Spectrum, and very nicely presented.
Just not quite enough substance or feel to the game to keep you coming back, or warrant a 5 star rating.

only decent racing game, there are plenty of better ones for the speccy, such as enduro racer, power drift, wec le mans and buggy boy. aside less fun and less playability, the difference is that there are a couple more options in this, and you absolutely can't get out off the road and crash against something: when you reach the edge of the track you bounce back losing speed. speed which you don't notice even when you're at the full of it.
the 48k version sound is loathable and rather ridiculous (and i usually like the ula...).
i'm giving it a 3, out of my immense, prodigious generosity.

Not bad, just not great. A good effort from US Gold (for once!) but simply put better racing games exist on the Spectrum, WEC Le Mans, Power Drift and Miami Cobra GT are three at least and I can name more if I wanted too.

This is rather good but its not going to bring me back time after time again.

It's not a bad racing game or arcade conversion, it's just not a good one either. The element of speed just isn't there and before you say anything about it being “only a Spectrum”, look at WEC Le Mans, then you'll see proper speed in a Spectrum racing game. Also the whining sound heard when you make a corner is irritating. This could have been so much more but then maybe that was too ambitious.
