According to The Oliver Twins, Code Masters initially disliked the game, but agreed to distribute it due to the success of the twins' previous games. Although the game did not sell particularly well, it generated a loyal following. As a result they decided to produce a second part (Treasure Island Dizzy) which was an immediate success.
