Re: Timex Sinclair 2040 printer question

The power supply output needs to be AC not DC and is rectified and regulated inside the printer itself. The website in the link in the post above says that you can buy fax paper and cut it down but there is no need as rolls of the right width are readily available, picture is of one of mine, and whi...

Re: Purely theoretical ROM swap

I couldn't say what would be the result re the Spectrum, but I have converted a few ZX81's into ZX80's ( as I didn't fancy paying half a grand for a "doesn't power up not tested no returns" piece of drek) This involved fitting a few resistors to various pins on the CPU to stop the NMI from...

Re: Abersoft fig-Forth Recompiled

Just to make certain I reloaded a fresh copy of the emulator (Fuse) and now it all works perfectly with large integers!! I also tried two other emulators and all ok with them also so can only assume I had a corruption in the emulator as all is ok and to confirm I have just run a primes routine to fi...

Then it must be something else causing a reset when using large integers in the Josephus problem, sadly I don't have the skills to solve this.

The Josephus problem if you are not familiar with it can be found here... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Josephus_problem Not a great problem but with large enough numbers a good speed test I have found. Usually in this example a smaller number is used usually in double figures. This code worked in y...

Re: Abersoft fig-Forth Recompiled

When I say not popular what I mean is that when ever I bring the subject up people leave the room! It will be nice to have a FIG model and as you say the manual is readily available. Will this ever be available to use on real speccy or are you concentrating on emulator only? The floating point...

Re: Abersoft fig-Forth Recompiled

I'm enjoying this thread quite a lot as Forth is my thing for computation, Forth79 in my case on the ZX81 and it's been fun comparing the two. Computation wise this is a fair bit slower than the ZX81 and not as fully featured and this latest version has introduced one bug at least which I suspect li...

Agreed, tried it on three emulators and each had a noticeable top end "buzz" not apparent in this recording, maybe ok on real kit nice to hear something musical rather than the usual chip tune thud thud bleep.

Hi flange, I know this effort as I know Poudade's, Toledo's and many others. And I mostly agree with you. All of those projects play much better chess, have more options and have a nicer interface, but let's not confuse things. That was not my aim. If you are looking for something that will give yo...

Re: Cricket?

Just had a quick play of both and have to say they are two totally different games which may share a similar graphic for the players but given that it's cricket there isn't a whole lot of design choice graphic wise. Controls, menus and the way the players actually play are all different between the ...

I find the cheap and cheerful USB mouse as sold by the likes of Asda are PS2 compatible, unlike the expensive Logitech devices, and works well on my Atari STE which requires PS2 compatibility. I was going to add that I believed at the time it was the units that had black leads with white tracer but I see the link you posted already mentions that.

EDIT.
