Re: Maze Castle

Agree. The output reminds me of churro style games. BUT - this is a NO CODE engine. That is key here. No coding or scripting what so ever. That is different. Music wise - some development is ongoing. It uses vortex tracker and beepfx So actually there are a lot of options. I added AY music to this g...

Re: Maze Castle

Nice one. The sound effects were updated in the engine last night. So the current version has this feature. Lots of work is being done all the time to improve it. I was intrigued to make a game with the engine as it was, and use it's limitations and characteristics. The level design follows these li...

I know this is for the CPC - but got it out over Christmas for research purposes.

The weakest part of the game is the routine for when you're on the green. That seems to let it down a bit.

I love the graphics though

Not so. The Gameboy is not mono, it is 4 shades of green.

Perfect for golf games lol.

Im I right in saying many games back in the day were not written on an actual spectrum?

Except for r type - Bob Pape is bad ass.

Re: Learning machine code

Are you using an emulator or pasmo or what?

The first step is getting comfortable with you rig.

I am quite amused that there might be a good first step before this.

Re: Learning machine code

Probably a good place to start is learning the screen. We did a challenge maybe last Christmas to draw the test screen in machine code Try doing it without using a ROM call for the text https://i.postimg.cc/3dVGfgMY/s-video-test-2715601115.jpg Certainly, understanding the screen is essential

given that it doesn't want to break into basic while a tune is playing - I assume you can't?!

Hehe you found it - yes that's it!

Sound effects also welcome;)

Am I right in thinking that Play is like beep in that you can't do other things while the music is playing?

Re: PLAY - REDUX

I just updated the Tubular Bells from 1988 by Ignacio P. Garcia - I've uploaded it to the same itch page.

It now works on 48k :)

I've had it on my divide for years and not been able to listen to it until now.

Who needs 128k anyways??

PLAY - REDUX

Nearly 2 years ago, TMD2003 set out a challenge to use the PLAY command in 128k to produce a song. I have lost the post, and cannot find it - so I have made another post - this! Well sir - I say to thee: 10 PRINT "Challenge accepted...": GO TO 10 5 REM Little Whale Explores the Calm Sea 10...

Ah - perfect. I didn't realise you had to put a carriage return in there in between the two words. Got it now - the switch is on! Also.... 'TAKE > [object name]' is also used as in "Examine [object]" So an example might be "take > bridge" -> "you examine the bridge, it doesn...

Re: WOOT 2023 released!

Also loving @TMD2003 mario jukebox.

I bet that code could be adapted to work on a 48k spectrum with ay and the .play command in esxdos.

Probably it's a niche crowd that would appeal too :)

I did have a version of hangman that I hoped to submit, but I still haven't got it finished 😔

Re: Cursed Castle

interesting to see what this new engine can do. Sort of like this in terms of arcade polish....

zx basic<-------->Boriel<----------->this engine<------------>ADG<----------->ASM

But this engine is probably a lot more flexible that ADG.

Strictly unofficial award.

I did arrange a prize but it got sorted so late in the day that I never got to tell anyone about it.

A prize worthy of the compo, I believe.
