Re: Curious eyebrow-raisers from Sinclair User's Gremlin column
I remember that back in 1987 there were recurring gags in Gremlin about Star Trek The Rebel Universe's much anticipated and never seen Spectrum release.

Re: Definitive list of games incompatible with +2A/+3 and of compatible versions (if any)
Hi amazin , unfortunately this is not the case of an "easy fix" because the Hit Squad re-release, which is +2A/+3 compatible, was heavily modified in order to overcome the compatibility issue. As far as I can tell, the only way to run this mod on genuine hardware would be reprogramming it ...

I know how to move the pieces but that's just about it. Real chess nuts even study historical matches, that's something I could hardly imagine myself doing.

Re: Cancelled games?
The Games That Time Forgot on the TZX Vault lists a Durell unfinished game named Spot Board which looks just like the one you are looking for. No idea about the other two, though. Wasteland in particular, the precursor to Fallout, was most probably never designed with the Spectrum as a target platf...

Re: Homebrew developers: a couple of questions, this goes hypothetical
1) My favourite game is always the last one. I try to do each time something different and more extensive than what I did previously.
2) I do not know, probably some medium/small software house interested into something quirky and off the beaten track? Durell, A 'n' F, PSS?

Re: A question about conditional jumps in ASM
Thank you all for your feedback and suggestions. Actually, in my case there are no values that can be recurring more often than others; they all depend from the user's choices. highrise 's suggestion is interesting, and I had thought about a sort of value table, but the values which drive the progra...

A question about conditional jumps in ASM
I have got a question about conditional jumps in Z80 Assembly. Sinclair BASIC allows jumps towards a part of a program if one of multiple conditions is met, like in this example: 10 IF a = 5 OR a = 10 OR a = 11 OR a = 12 OR a = 20 THEN GO TO 100 In order to do the same in Z80 Assembly, the first opt...

Re: Cousin Horace
Hi, I just did what I suggested you to do with Fuse and nothing strange happened.
It was enough to drag and drop the TAP files into Fuse's window.
When the intro (file 0) ends, drag the first part (file 1) into the window, then press ENTER to load part 1.
Hope that helps.

The problem with Nirvana is that it uses small blocks and everything is made of them. How big are tiles and sprites in Nirvana? 16x16 pixels or so. No, you can definitely create big animated sprites with Nirvana. I made a little demonstration myself, you can look at it here (start at 1:54:22): http...

Re: Cousin Horace
Hi AlWo73 , Cousin Horace is not a multi-load game. Each part must be loaded separately. There are six files for each language for this reason. After watching the intro, insert the first part's file in the virtual tape recorder and load it as normal. On a side note, the game can be downloaded for fr...

Re: Sinclair PC200 Issue
I remember very well the review in Sinclair User in the October 1988 issue. They even reviewed some games for it later. There was also another Sinclair badged PC too, a beige desktop case. I can't recall its specifics without checking, but iirc it was a basic clone of an Amstrad model, possibly a 28...

Re: Most obscure puzzle in a text adventure
Actually I managed to solve that Ringmaster puzzle on my own - I guessed that Spidey got a glimpse of the knob before Ringmaster commanded him to go away so that he was able to remember its position even with his eyes closed. It makes sense if you reflect upon it. On the other hand, what really got ...

Re: Are there any easy Spanish games?
It's funny because back in the day I thought that Spectrum games were difficult in general, but I didn't think that the Spanish ones were particularly more difficult than the rest. I only saw the "Spanish games are difficult" meme when I read it on an English magazine. Me too. It was more...

Re: Adventure 2: Politico - 48K or 128K?
The "!" sign before the SAVE or LOAD commands is typical of 128/+2 silicon disk file operations. Why it does appear in a 1983 program - it was advertised in ZX Computing as early as December 1982 - is a mystery to me

Some comments follow... I started creating games with AGD ten years ago, and at the time, we that employed it were really few, with Paul Jenkinson as a real pioneer in this field. Nowadays AGD/MPAGD/AGDx titles are popping up a bit everywhere, and the Bearsden school experience showed that it can al...

probably prepared by some of the best programmers back in 1983 It was September 1982, and the demo was programmed by John Mathieson, who was present at the scene- As already reported, it was not a "real" demo - just a simple program designed to be started at the touch of a button. Mathies...
