ZXBaremulator 3.3
ZXBaremulator 3.3
Hi all,
A new ZXBaremulator version has been released to correct some bugs on Z80 core emulation.
The emulator can be downloaded from his project webpage: http://zxmini.speccy.org
My two cents...

@zx81
It's excellent news that you have returned to the project. I'm sure @Pegaz will be pleased too.

Re: ZXBaremulator 3.3
To reiterate what I said earlier:
So glad this has been update after a long while. I've been following this project on and off too.
My only critique is still the lack of Pi 4 or 400 support. Otherwise this is a really solid project.

Re: ZXBaremulator 3.3
I have a question about tape compatibility:
Can I load anything through audio via a mic jack or something? I have a USB external audio card and a tape player.

Re: ZXBaremulator 3.3
Thanks for answering anyway. I do also wanna ask if you could add a way to save snapshots in the near future (i.e. *.z80 or *.sna)...?

Re: ZXBaremulator 3.3
@zx81 I think its going to be a pain in the ass to implement that for you as this would have been in it by now.
But it would make it amazing emulator.
good luck!!

Re: ZXBaremulator 3.3
Thank you for all the hard work and I appreciate the time you have spent to make this work as well as it does.
How difficult would it be to add Kempston joystick support through the GPIO?
It looks like there are enough pins free, just not sure if they are the correct type

Re: ZXBaremulator 3.3
Most GPIO pins are reserved for real keyboard supoort and keyboard mode change (14 pins in all). Kempston joystick needs 5 GPIO pins, no more 2 pins free, I guess.Essex2Visuvesi wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 7:52 pm Thank you for all the hard work and I appreciate the time you have spent to make this work as well as it does.

Re: ZXBaremulator 3.3
You could use a cheap Arduino clone to emulate a USB Xbox360 controller, and wire your joystick to that, then plug it in to a USB port on the Pi.Essex2Visuvesi wrote: ↑Wed May 22, 2024 7:52 pm Thank you for all the hard work and I appreciate the time you have spent to make this work as well as it does.

I use this type in my arcade stick:

I've not tried on ZX BareEmulator, but it works with anything else that expects an XInput device.
I'm in the middle of moving so everything is boxed up so can't try.
I rewrote the code for my arcade stick to provide programmable autofire and auto-waggle, utilising extra buttons.
I see there is also a more fully-featured gamepad emulator for Pi Pico, if you have one of them knocking about - https://github.com/OpenStickCommunity/GP2040-CE

Re: ZXBaremulator 3.3
Thanks for the info
Tried both of the projects you mentioned and Sadly neither are detected in the emulator
Both work fine in other emulators and on the PC
It's a real shame as I was looking forward to using a vintage joystick. Feels odd playing Jetpak with an X-Box controller
I've half got round it by tapping into the GPIO Keyboard to get Sinclair Joystick, but not all games support this.
Maybe some exteded joystick compatibility is something that can be added to the next release?

Re: ZXBaremulator 3.3
Little update.
Figured out where I went wrong and the first joystick emulator works
I’d forgotten to wire the select button.
Just means I’ll need to add another button to my rig to activate the joystick mode.
Also a few more questions or feature requests:-
is there a way to set the default location for the load section to a subfolder eg /games or files
Set the default joystick at boot?
Perhaps these could be set in the text file where the default spectrum tyoe can be set to 48k or 128
