Rogue AIs in spectrum games
Theres a fun list of games which include a rogue AI (Portal, System Shock, Deus Ex etc).
https://www.theguardian.com/games/2023/ ... -rogue-ais
Normally The Guardian games lists give a nod to Spectrum games, but theres no entry in this list. Possibly because there isn't anything. I can't think of any. The likes of Alien8 have you rescuing the ship as the AI. Even fairly obscure adventures like Snowball have a benign shipboard computer. Is there any game where the baddy is the thing that is meant to be helping you*?
(* I suppose in 2001, the computer HAL was actively trying to help the humans complete the mission. But the humans wouldn't see it that way).

Not really an AI, but a "central computer" that controls everything is the main antagonist of 1994:

And what about Deus Ex Machina?

iD
(And I just found out that the search won't let you look for games with only two letters in the title!)

Re: Rogue AIs in spectrum games
Let me guess, the biggest example of a Rogue AI must be a Terminator game right?
We have obviously a game like Terminator 2 in the archive, right?

Re: Rogue AIs in spectrum games
You're playing against an "evil computer" in Byte. Which is, thematically, close to Rogue AI, amiright?
It is also the first spectrum game I bought, because I couldn't afford JetPac.
Mum went back and got JetPac. Thanks mum.

Terra Cognita from same author?
Re: Rogue AIs in spectrum games
The ship's computer, Achilles, in the excellent Aliens: Neoplasma is most definitely NOT on your side!
Re: Rogue AIs in spectrum games
Carrier Command. I think the enemy carrier is automated.
Also - Glider Rider? I'm not sure if the island is computer-controlled, but there certainly aren't any other visible people.
