Reviews for Eddie Edwards' Super Ski (#11670)

I feared the worst when I chose to play this one, or rather it was presented to me by Sinclair Randomseek. I was expecting it to be slow, sluggish and unenjoyable, so its immediate fast speed took me by surprise. I do feel that maybe the game at times is too fast and is thus uncontrollable and makes missing gates a habit but it's just a matter of getting the right speed for it I feel. There's no sound which creates boredom and the final event Ski Jump, Eddie's event, has to be loaded into the Spectrum after doing the third event, and it crashed on me, safe to say I was bummed. I find it weird that the previous events were all downhill where Eddie was a ski jumper and then Ski Jump refused to load, not fitting of bearing the Eddie The Eagle name I feel. It's not bad really, it's just repetitive and not very interesting, although I did expect this to be much worse so that's something.

I was quite impressed in a good way once I started the first event in Eddie Edwards' Super Ski. The action is fast, our skier as a good animated sequence that suggest speed well enough, and the ski trails move in a realistic way, with ups and downs and fast turns. There is also small crowds of by-standers along the run that enhance the feeling of realism.

It's not easy to control our skier, but managing speed is just a matter of practice. The game as both the options of training and competition. If you select the competition option, you should be skilled enough otherwise you'll be wasting time. There are at least 4 events to participate slalom, giant slalom, downhill race and super ski. In the end, your best score will decide your podium position.
The only letdown is I was expecting a sort of Winter Games with different events, instead the events are quite similar, although each require a different approach, mainly in speed but also in technique. But after all this is a Skying game, so the events are correctly chosen.
