Reviews for Alien Syndrome (#157)

I think this is one of the best conversions made from an arcade game to the Spectrum.
The game is highly addictive, like in the arcade, the graphics are reasonable and faithful to the original like all the other aspects are.
Also like in the arcade game, there is a two player option, which is great to play with a friend, giving a union feel between players that I never experienced in any other game.

I always found the bosses too disgusting. It may be a good thing to some. Not to me. Not in a ZX Spectrum game. I would prefer them a little more innocent, but as the name implies the syndrome is the obvious culprit.
Highly addictive game.

A Gaunlet inspired video-game with a lot of action and many good things to offer ... a variety of weapons , a variety of characters , a variety of enemies , and a strange and claustrophobic atmosphere .

This is one of the few video-games that really scared me to death as a child to the point that I didnĀ“t want to play it in spite of its quality . There is a nasty side to this game ... the aliens are really revolting .

It caused a sensation back in the day .

The multi-player mode is an addition to all of these virtues .

It can be very tough, especially with the starting weapon but once you get your hands on some decent weaponry you can show those oversized wheat crunchies whose boss!

It's a pretty good alien destroying game. Ugly worms from outer space to be chased inside a spacecraft, spacestation, or something. It's very playable.

You wander around a spaceship or futuristic laboratory or something, shooting at big alien worms and trying to save your "comrades" (you must be a communist) - and when you collected 10 of them, a door opens and you enter a black room where a worse and bigger alien, a sort of big pie with a yellow head over it, attacks you, firing crawling stuff that chases you around the screen. So, it's fun. The graphics are cute, though the scrolling is not that splendid, and playability is high. It's equal opportunity game as Ant Attack, where you can choose to control a boy or a girl. And it lookes like the programmer is a female, or at least one of them - a Pamela Roberts. So, it's very exciting.

Another Sega arcade conversion and one I never liked, not on arcade and not here either, and yet everyone one else enjoys the game except me. This is playable, I will give it that, but I never got on with the character moving slower than the enemies and especially since you have to rescue 10 hostages before a time limit, and with him moving so slowly that seems like a tall order. I think this is better than the arcade version which is saying something, but it still doesn't warm to me.

A good conversion from the Sega coin-op which is basically a Gauntlet clone in an Aliens setting. As in the original, you can play as a man or a woman - one of the very few games on the Spectrum where you can choose this, along with Ant Attack and Rocky Horror Show! - and must rescue at least 10 comrades before gaining access to the level boss room. You have various weapons at your disposal and up to 2 droids can follow you protecting your back from the enemies.

Graphics are colourful but smallish and a bit sketchy, and sound is limited to some blips and beeps. However the game is quite playable and should be tried by all Gauntlet fans.

Nice and funny.
Another game more than sufficiently polished. I rate it between 3 and 4, although it must be recognized that something is missing. Its title is very appealing nonetheless!!
