Reviews for Galaxian (#1933)

Review by Raphie on 07 Feb 2012 (Rating: 4)

The classic Namco shooter on the ZX Spectrum....and it's really good. Those who remember Atarisoft's Pac-Man will know that the game whilst still Pac-Man was slow, tedious and ridiculed with magic power pills (yes, really!), but here everything is so much better, the colours, the speed, the gameplay, it's a successful conversion.

More or less, the neatest Galaxian conversion possible, and one of the best shoot'em up's of 1984.
4/5

1984 Atarisoft (UK)
by David Aubrey-Jones

David wrote one of my favorite games, H.E.R.O. and Death Star Interceptor, also wrote Ghostbusters, which is not the best game but brings back some sweet memories, and then Galaxian, an Atari port which I played extensively and is deserving of recognition, because it's a very good conversion.

The official tie-in licence of Namco's classic arcade is also the best conversion for the Spectrum.

Both graphics and sounds are very close to the original game (with the obvious limitations of the Spectrum) and the gameplay is excellent.
