Reviews for Horace & the Spiders (#2350)

Good for its time, with compelling gameplay. The action is split into three stages, the first two of which just serve as a buildup to the spiderweb platform level. This is strangely satisfying to play, getting to jump up and down repeatedly on big spiders.

Horace always seemed to me like a very impatient character ... moving his two legs from side to side without a rest !! Not bad for a blob with no arms ... lol.

One of the most glamorous characters to come out from the all-time Speccy gallery. A timeless classic and a legend itself !

Here is where the trilogy comes to an end (until someone digs up the Melbourne House game). It couldnt have been a better end to Horace's adventures.
The game is set in 3 stages, each different from the other. First stage Horace must run towards a cavern while avoiding the spiders, stage two he has to swing above the spiders until reaching a safe area and the third stage sees Horace in a sort of 'Panic' game where he must kill the spiders by opening a hole in the web, wait until a spider falls in and then jump into the kill.
Probably the most rewarding game of the series.

The prelim jump and rope stages are a source of frustration but the Panic clone section in the spider's web itself was great fun to play back in the day, and it still impresses with its impatient fluidity now - a great deal more so than other Panic variants from the same era of the Spectrum.

The spider sprites themselves are a mini work of excellence - repugnant and threatening.

Horace's most original game, kind of, and also his weakest as it turns out. The second part of jumping to the webs is a pain because of the awkward timing and jumping and part 3 is bloody Space Panic, my nemesis. Horace Goes Skiing is usually the first thing people bring up when Horace is mentioned, perhaps his other games being average and mediocre have something to do with this.
