Reviews for Mr. Wimpy (#3312)

Like them or loathe them, this was the game that first started the craze for tie-in licenses, which was to prove a lucrative vein for Ocean over the years even if the games didn't always live up to or even relate much to their subject matter.

You start by collecting the ingredients and the game then becomes an obvious clone of the arcade game Burger Time, and its not a bad one with good use of colour and a few beeper jingles.

Still it's neither particularly original or outstandingly good; just a fairly standard arcade clone that's fun for a few minutes diversion.

Yes even Mr. Wimpy had his own Spectrum game! And why I never got my Bananaman game I will never know! But yeah it's alright really, the first part has you picking up a tray from the left side of the screen and avoid the moving holes and the one nastie called Waldo to move to the right hand side to collect food, you then have to move to the other side again to deliver the food, do this twice more to finish the level, if your hit by Waldo you've to start over again, that can get a bit annoying and tedious.

Once you're finished it's straight out Burger Time which is always a fun game to play. Now I've not played a lot of this but when I fiished the first level I was expecting to return to the first bit again...but no I'm still in Burger Time. So it makes me wonder why this wasn't a straight out Burger Time clone rather than have to include the first bit just once.

Still a nice little game, if you love Burger Time then give this a go although it's looked better on the Spectrum and you have to go through a rather pointless first part before you can enjoy your Burger Time, unless you insert a poke to start you on level 2 that is.

Another Ocean Software unofficial coin op conversion with an irritating preliminary game [as in Eskimo Eddie, a Pengo clone],
this time leading to a decent Burger Time game. But the aforementioned introductory minigame lower the vote. I'm in a bad mood too.
2/5

A pretty poor game with a rubbish first game and a half-decent but poorly implemented Burger Time. Good for a quick look to get past the first part and then the job is done, then you'll never need to touch this game again, at least I won't.

1984 Ocean Software

This game was written as a promotional tie with the Wimpy restaurants, so if you have visited this place you will recognize their logos, their company mascots, etc.
Practically speaking this is none other than Burger Time, with a first part which I guess is unique to itself, although clearly inspired by other games, but
I guess this would have been fun in 1984, I sure would have played it, specially because I love Burger Time, and I cant say this is a bad clone.
