Reviews for Turbo Out Run (#3565)

Sequel to the rubbish that was Out Run and even though I've given this a higer score I can't really tell if there is much improvement or not, ok there's a turbo button that makes you go faster, ok the music from Dave "Uncle Art" Lowe is very nice (especially the second tune which I like a lot) but technically it's still Out Run and there are still better racing games out there on the ZX Spectrum.

An interesting racing game, a bit more polished than the already good Out Run, but still suffering from the limitations imposed by the Spectrum architecture. There is not much originality to be found here either - if you played Out Run you will already know what to expect here, with the addition of a turbo mode (hence the name) which can be useful for catching up with the opponents when things start to get difficult for you.

Have to say it, but this is better than Out Run, albeit slightly. It largely feels the same game and so both have the same issues and as such neither is great, but neither aren't so bad either. I feel that the turbo element of the game and that the game mostly didn't bother with routes made this feel like a proper racing game rather than driving through traffic. For that, I would give this one the nod over Out Run, just.

It's an improvement compared to the original Out Run conversion, under the aspect of speed, but in the meantime
race games on Spectrum got even better, with titles like WEC Le Mans and Chase HQ or even a minor one like Power Drift, and Turbo Out Run pales compared to them. Moreover, you don't have a clear view of the vehicles that are directly in front of you. Okaysh, nothing special.
