Phantis is a fast-pathed side-scroll shooter with a Spanish touch ... NOT just another shooter .

1987 Dinamic Software (Spain)
by Carlos Abril and Javier Cubedo

I think 'Phantis' plays a little better than the prequel 'Game Over'. It's evident that the programmers took notice of some of the errors in the prequel and tried to correct them. The game plays smoother, the graphics are less confusing with less colour clashing and the action is a bit more player friendly.
I still prefer 'Game Over' over 'Phantis' just because it was a game I used to play in the 80's, although I never fancied it much, but it's clear to me that 'Phantis' despite not original, is better.

Originally released in Spain as Phantis, for international release was renamed as GameOver 2, because Electronics Arts wanted to take profit of previous success that Dinamic Software enjoyed with Game Over.

The game features two totally different separated loads. First one being shoot'em up stages with spaceships, monsters and gigantic snakes.
Second load is an arcade adventure with nice graphics and a few objects to collect needed to advance.

The game is very nicely presented and efficiently programmed. But counts with a general flaw which isn't obvious at first sight. This flaw is that is incredibly easy.. it flows so good, that you advance without even noticing.

This details annoyed many players at its time. Curiosly, at Spain, the game didn't sold too well.. Analysts thought it was because at 1987, the approach of controlling a woman-hero for rescue his boyfriend, wasn't attractive for buyers.

It's like, I don't know, Game Over for girls - because it looks and it's a typical
spanish product, but - strangely - is easy, comparatively VERY easy, and I must be a girl, because I like it, even more than the original Game Over. It starts flying in space, a horizontal shoot'em up with beautifully coloured explosions, and ends up on the surface of a planet, and in between there are enemis of all kind, colour and shape. It's great fun.
Biggest breast ever on the loading screen.
