Reviews for Rampage (#4017)

The multi-player modality available of this game makes it all much more attractive and fun.

To interact with other monsters smashing bricks and windows is quite a nice feature of this RAMPAGE.

8 out of 10 for this game that still lacks a little something to reach a true classic status .

An explosive game when I first heard about it, still explosive when I first played it, but rapidly wears out. It becames boring after awhile. The cities arent all that imaginative and lookalike and our beasts drag around a bit, I find the controls not that responsive.
The game idea is captivating, King Kong meets a Giant Werewolf and a sort of lizard-Black-Lagoon-like monster and mission is to destroy everything and avoid destruction. You are attacked by little soldiers and little tanks and little chopters, eat people around, destroy armies and manage a sort of non-profitable demolition association (that's me saying!), its every misbehaved kids dream... 'till he gets bored.

Good conversion from the Midway coin-op where the player(s) control a monster resulting from a human unfortunate enough to eat some sort of radioactive food. The objective is simple - hit all of the buildings in each screen until they collapse and keep an eye on the soldiers, helicopters, tanks and angry citizens who continously attack you.

If your energy drops to zero you return to your human form and are forced to leave the screen - with only your birthday suit on! Luckily you can eat food or even those pesky humans to regain energy; avoid eating everything else.

The action of the coin-op has been transposed on the Spectrum well; the pure bashing fun of the original is all here to be found. Yes, graphics are pretty basic, except for the quite well depicted monsters, sound is minimal and the game does not feature any complex strategy, but while it lasts, it's an enjoyable and refreshing ride.

One of my absolute favourite games on the ZX Spectrum. I can totally see the criticism this game gets but for me it's simply awesome, I never fail to enjoy this game and it'll always remain a cult favourite for me. Just wonderful.

I have great memories of playing this in 3-player mode on my friend's "+2". One of us would use keys (usually me as I preferred keyboard for this game). Another player would be on a Sinclair joystick plugged in to the side, and another on a Kempston interface, sticking out of the back.

It's the only game I know where you can punch helicopters out of the sky and pummel skyscrapers to the ground. Also, it's good to play as the "monsters" instead of the "good guys" for a change. Certainly very original and quite effective as a stress-buster too!

Great conversion with the enjoyment certainly retained from the arcade version. Although I'd say it doesn't quite merit a score of 5 because the controls can seem slightly laggy at times. Not surprising though, with so much action going on across the entire screen. Also, ultimately the game is quite shallow with not a huge long-term replay value, but I still rate it as "good" just for the sheer fun of the multiplayer mode.

The zany newspaper headlines which pop up between screens are quite memorable too.

This is a superb game but it just feels too short for me, like you'll only last around 4 or 5 levels and then it's game over. But it's still a great game and I had a lot of fun playing it.
