Reviews for Rastan (#4033)

Review by p13z on 29 Jun 2013 (Rating: 4)

Conversion of Taito's side-scrolling platform slash-em-up.
The controls feel good, level design is good and slashing the enemy feels satisfying. If you hang around too long, the enemy just keep piling in, so you have to keep up a good pace to get through levels.
The graphics are very nice. Smooth parallax scrolling, big sprites, and non-offensive use of colour. The detailed monochrome sprites can be hard to see against some of the busier backgrounds, making it needlessly difficult in parts.
Worth playing, and playing for a while. With slightly clearer graphics, and/or more adventurous use of colour to make it a bit easier on the eyes, this could be a 5/5 game.

The controls in Rastan are great. The main character responds well and movements are fast and fluid. The music is also very good. So why have I only given it a 3? It's the backdrops, they're hideous and gave me a headache after only about 5 minutes. Not only that, they also obscure the enemies. A simple black background would have solved both these problems but alas programmers back then wanted to test our eyesight to the limits!

Like Connan or Barbarian but with ropes and wild animals along the way ,,,

Very 80´s and with a fine-sounding tune !!

Worth a try !

Nice scrolling slash 'em up. A bit too difficult in places. Fun nonetheless.

Extremely playable Leap and Fight game with a muscular star and his mighty sword, and blinding backgrounds.

3,5/5
