Reviews for Rolling Thunder (#4234)

A sideway person shooter game where the main character jumps up and down levels to avoid the bad guys.

There are doors on the way where you can reload ammunition and get rockets and stairs and tyres to jump on or over.

Good game based on the Arcade game of the same name.

Conversion of the original platform shooter coin-op.
The game is quite faithfully reproduced, with all the enemies, gun upgrades and most of the levels intact, albeit with slightly less colour and no groovy music.
This is very playable, but hard. Movement and controls feel, only slightly, sluggish compared to the coin-op, which results in fast reflexes and anticipation being required to stay alive. Losing a life is all too easy, and can result in starting from a frustratingly long way back.
A good game, worth a look.

Although I never liked the arcade version, I really enjoy the Spectrum port.
The movement is a bit jerky, the monochrome scheme is not the best and the graphics could be a little bit more refined, if that makes any sense. But the gameplay is really good and as a platform shoot 'em up it's really exciting. The biggest letdown, however is getting to the start of each level, each time you get killed. That's a big no no.

A sort of James Bond derivative ... and a rather good one !!

If it weren´t for the repetitive action I would give it a 4 ...

I wish Shinobi from speccy would had had this engine.
It isn't a technical marvel ( like Ghosts'N'Goblins or Robocop, for example )
But it works, it is clean and it is solid. Good arcade.
