Reviews for Run Baby Run (#4269)

A very basic looking top-down car chase game.
Steer your car around the 'streets', and a line of cop cars take chase. The aim is to avoid capture, while causing the police to crash into each other. If you manage to get 6 cars to crash, the police get peeved and send a car out with some serious weaponry. With no cars left to block your exit, this is where you attempt your final escape.
Far too simple, and arguably far too frustrating and difficult, but it is fun and very addictive to play.
I get sucked into playing 'Run Baby Run' for ages. I couldn't fairly give a game that is this simple looking and frustrating 5/5. But it is a 16k game, from 1983, and maybe the simplicity is part of its appeal.

I like this sort of games but Run Baby Run is a bit unplayable ...

Run baby run, preferably in the opposite direction of this game!

Last played this in 1983, 30 years ago. Surprisingly the nostalgic pull to rediscover this jerky excercise in angst and frustration just wasn't that strong enough... until right now.
RBR is a perfect example of the 'it was only a couple of quid, be bloody happy with it' school of budget gaming.
RBR is a strange game of follow your leader and don't crash, set in the mazy backstreets of places like Huddersfield and Oxford.
Just now I absolutely had to play until I had beaten a level. And thank god I just did, I was hooked to this grim banality for 20 minutes or more...

From the same fella that gave us Race Ace from Don't Buy This, this isn't like really bad but it's not an exciting product to say the least. I was only able to get two police cars to crash into each other once, every other time it just went straight through them. Not very fun at all.

A chase maze game with bad, jerky and flickery graphics, irritating and repetitive bleeping sounds and repetitive and frustrating gameplay. How on earth could they ask you money for this stuff is beyond me - they should have payed you for playing it, actually!
