Reviews for Soldier of Fortune (#4631)

Review by WhenIWasCruel on 11 Jan 2010 (Rating: 4)

soldier of fortune is a multidirectionally explorable ghosts'n'goblins, only much neater under every aspect.
it's 1988, three years has passed since g'n'g, it is technically palpable.

1988 Firebird Software Ltd (UK)

For a 1988 game and from a major software house I was expecting a lot more from this game. Graphically it's nothing special and even a bit outdated, I think. There are very few different enemies and the backgrounds are boring and uninteresting. Audio is very basic, with a few beeps here and there, but very basic, although it has a nice tune at the start. It looks like Ghost n' Goblins but with a little of exploring to do. With that said, however, the game is pleasant to play and quite compelling. The goal is straight forward, and there aren't many dull moments. But again I was expecting a little more from this.

Ghosts'N'Goblins but with a more home entertainment feeling. It has an adventure element which make the game less straight forward and linear than a typical arcade machine.

Intelligent weapon system, beautiful scroll and creepy atmosphere.

Also has the random factor of the position of objects which makes every play slightly different.

I wonder if I can get through this review without mentioning Ghosts N Goblins...

Ok so it plays a bit like Ghosts N Goblins only with better graphics and exploration. Good stuff!
