Reviews for Tapper (#5143)

Review by Stack on 01 Mar 2009 (Rating: 4)

Tapper is played like a classic Game and Watch. It's that simple. Slide drinks to new customers who line up along 4 or 5 bars per round. Collect the empties when the slide them back. Don't drop anything or leave a customer unserved for too long (they'll grab you). Technically you can move along the bars but most of the action is spent timing service to be at the right bar at the right time.
Its a classic high score game where some players can get in the zone to be almost invincible, but few will find rounds 4 or 5 easy at the first encounter.
Collecting customer tips releases the dancing girls for extra razzmatazz.
A nice bunco booth bonus game of pick the unshaken beer can makes a fun break between levels.
The customers at the bars get themselves in a graphical pickle when there is a crowd but it barely detracts from the game.

1985 US Gold / Ocean Software (UK)

In the addictive Tapper you play the role of a busy bartender trying to keep his ever thirsty customers attended on time. While you do that the customers leave you valuable tips if you satisfy them.
Between levels you have to play a game of guessing with the Soda Bandit, which is kind of random but fun anyway.
A great conversion from the arcade machines and still worthy of playing this days.

A colorful and humorous game by US Gold !!

Simple and very funny ... !!

Tapper truly deserves a place among Speccy´s most original games ever.

4 to 5 out of 5 . . .

The arcade game is very good, the Spectrum version isn't so bad as it's still good fun but the graphical sprite/colour clash spoils it as it can be very difficult to determine how many are left in one row. Another low for the game is the music is awful, you can't even call it music. It is O Susana played at about a thousand pitches too low and is quite an ear rape. Best to play this on mute. Still a fun game but its flaws halt any chance of legendary recognision on my book.

A decent conversion of the Bally/Midway arcade game. As a bartender you must serve beers to people before they reach you and pick up the empty mugs.

In spite of the repetitive tune and the limited graphics, the game is funny and very addictive. As time passes, the game gets a frenetic rhythm, as in the best Nintendo Game & Watch games.

Another great loading screen made by F. David Thorpe.

Looks like a pretty decent conversion of a scarcely interesting coin op.
The gameplay is very simplistic and limited.
Like one of those early handheld electronic games.
3/5

This is a bit too simplistic for me and it soon gets boring.
