Reviews for Big Trouble in Little China (#519)

This game should have been more aptly titled: "Big Trouble in Little China, or How To Waste A Great Movie License". Beacuse that's what it is - a dreadful Kung-Fu Master style game with dire graphics, no sound and gameplay which is as absorbing as watching paint dry on walls. Even the various available weapons seem to have little or no effect on the continuous flow of copycat enemies.

John Carpenter's classic action movie could have easily been turned into a great arcade game, were it tackled by a more competent team. As it is, it's a great example of how to squander an enormous potential into a sub-standard final product.

I remember the game's loading screen quite well, but somehow forgot completely 'bout the game. No wonder. Its as bad as it can get. There is nothing memorable about this title, even the loading screen seems to have been made in a hurry. The 3 faces look copy/pasted and Kurt Russell will never look so Asian again.
Big Trouble in Little China probably sold enough to satisfy its authors due to the movie tie-in, but I seriouly doubt it ever satistied a single player.

A poor film tie-in, and a poor example of a scrolling beat-em-up.
The graphics are smooth and polished, and there is enough of a game to keep you playing for a while, to see how far you can progress. Ultimately, gameplay becomes really repetitive, and is somewhat bugged and exploitable.
Certainly not worth the £9.99 I paid for this in '87

A horrendous game, it just has disaster written all over it from the moment you start playing it. On par with Highlander it's that bad.

Big Boredom in Little China! It's surprising how much boredom can such a small place contain. Another macho icon, Kurt Russell, finds its way to the Spectrum and I bet he'd rather not have found it, and me too, because, as much as I'd like beating Chinese people [it's a long and very sad story], the game is terrible, dull, uninteresting in spite of the choice among three fighters with different moves, the sprites look anonymous, the backgrounds faceless, and the monochrome is yellow based, which is probably the right colour for an oriental themed beat'em up, but it's perfect to make your pupils bleed too.
