Reviews for Treasure Island (#5400)

Not a favourite of mine growing up and it still isn't today. The game is very frustrating, getting past the first two screen is a challenge in itself, when you manage it simply run around the screen collecting swords and throwing it at the enemies, soon after that boredom kicks in severly.

Not really my type of game and it was the least favourite of the games I recieved with my 128K +2A.

1984 Mr. Micro (UK)
by Jim Greg and Issi

Based upon the classic adventure novel by Robert Louis Stevenson.
In level one, our Hero, Jim Hawkins, has to board the ship Hispaniola. To do this he must avoid Blind Pew gang.
Then he has to escape from the boat avoiding the crew, who's about to mutiny. This happens in the second scene with the aforementioned crew trying to throw their arms around you! Once he reaches the island the main game can be played on Treasure Island itself. The island part is a Sabre Wulf lookalike but with a few elements that make it slightly different. This last level would be later repackaged and release with the name Willow Pattern.
The game has average graphics, some with good detail and some not, and the overall gameplay, is just about average.

Inspired by classic Treasure Islandesque stories, books, movies, comics and whatever's, here comes this action game, that starts terribly with two irritating mini-games, in the first - that can be seen in the picture - you must avoid some bad people and go aboard the ship, with a collision detection that is simpy MYSTERIOUS, in the second you have to jump from barrel to barrel avoiding SAILOR'S ARMS moving up and down. Once learned how to get past these two forgettable introductions, you land on the treasure island, and the real game begin, and luckily is a nice one. A fast maze game with a strategy element [if we want to use a noble locution for a very simple thing], in which you have to use the swords you find very carefully or you won't be able to go on, because you won't be able to eliminate enemies blocking the way. By the way, you can even steal swords from them. Strange swords to be used FLINGING THEM, and just once. Anyway, the aforementioned mini-games aside, it's quite cute. It would have been better without at least the first of the two. Oh well.

Bizarre sword management meets Sabre Wulf maze game in a flickery epic swashbuckling story which opens with 2 dreadful minigames, develops into something quite quick moving and playable and in the end frustrates by being too pernickerty.
