Reviews for World Series Basketball (#5749)

Review by The Dean of Games on 02 Mar 2010 (Rating: 5)

1985 Imagine Software (UK)
by Ian Morrison, David Anderson and F. D. Thorpe (loading screen)

The first proper basketball simulator, and still one of the best ever on the ZX.
A bit slow at times, but still very playable and challenging, the graphics are nicely drawn too!
The game has a few bugs, the worst of all is the buffer overflow bug that happens when the ball is thrown outside the court within a specific place and continues on the other side, the game isn't interrupted but its impossible to continue, because the ball keeps coming from the margins of the court into the playing area and again moving outside of the screen until the game simply crashes.
Put this aside and you end up with a great sports game.

5 out of 5 for this basketball simulator !!

Not being a basket lover myself, I find this game quite amusing and realistic.

Beating the machine is not an easy task.

One of the best basketball games ever made for the Spectrum.

No flaws , pure joy ! ! !

5 / 5 .

Best basketball game on the Speccy, as far as I know. Lost my first match 43-4 or something. Luckily it was only a problem of default skill level. So, both beginners and veterans can play it and enjoy it.
And you can even change the colour of the pitch. Blood red, wow. Only one major flaw for me: there are no statistics at the end of a match. Aside that, very good.

The good point about this game is that it was one of the first basketball games for the Spectrum (or at least the first one I played).

It uses the same view as Match Day. As in Ritman & Clarke's game, you can change the court's colour. Then, a 4-vs-4 game with six levels of difficulty.

In spite of its bugs, poor sounds and graphics, in spite of there are some technically better basketball games, its great playability and (why not) the nostalgia make it a very decent game. Great memories playing it!

The second of Imagine's World Series games, this time with Basketball, this time I did not have back in the day and that I am certainly glad about. It does feel like a more favourable game compared to World Series Baseball but the passing and shooting is a matter of luck, one money when you want to shoot he'll pass and throw the ball out of play, then when you want to pass he'll shoot the damn thing and throw it out of play again. I always felt confused with which team I was and was never able to be the right player I wanted or needed to be while defending. I want to say that this is better than Baseball but instead I'll just turn up my nose at the World Series games and be thankful I won't have to play them ever again.

... how good would this be that it was the second best option for me and a neighbor ... after playing basketball
... of course we played together in 2 - player Mode. Fun and laughs

This is the Match Day of basketball.

True, great 2 player matches.
