Livingstone, I Presume is one of the best videogames ever created by a Spanish Software company. The variety of screens is wide, the actions of the player are varied as well as original ... all in all a game that one should not miss. ;D

One of the first releases of the spanish company Topo and one of the most iconic games of Spain's software industry in the 80s.

A nice adventure in which you take the role of Henry Morton Stanley in his historic mission of searching lost adventurer David Livingstone through Zambeze river in Africa.

You must go upriver till the town of the very dangerous Ujijis, a cannibal tribe whose sacred temple is the place in which you must deposit five sacred stones you must previously find. To accomplish this difficult mission you have a machete, some grenades, a boomerang and a pole to reach inaccessible places.

You progress through an almost linear jungle, screen by screen -no scroll-, full of cannibals, monkeys, piranhas, carnivorous plants and soldiers. The detailed graphics and use of colour are acceptable, so are the game sounds, but improvable, I must say.

The movement of the character is not good, what it makes difficult to control at first. You must do some attempts till you can jump with the pole. This and the use of the boomerang are two original features of this game.

In summary, an acceptable and original adventure game.

Pretty good very adventurous game, in which you move through the jungle and other impervious environments equipped with hand granades, boomerangs, arrows and a pole to pole vaulting over traps, insidious screens or land on otherwise unreachable spots - while dodging or killing the most deadly fauna and flora - and all this only to save a silly chap. Anyway, a bit too hard for my taste.

This game was released after the big Jungle themed hits Three Weeks in Paradise and Jack the Nipper In Coconut Capers, and even though it's not as good and not as popular, is still well remembered and worth playing. The game follows a plot based on the "Livingstone, I Presume" quote said by Henry Stanley, after he encountered David Livingstone lost somewhere in the heart of Africa.

As a platform game it is slightly different from other platform games, because it doesn't rely just on jumping here and there, you have ropes to climb, a pole to use or a boomerang and knife to throw. If you want a long jump you have to get some balance and there is also a power bar which will determine the speed you'll use on your boomerangs. It's cartoonish feel is well done and is quite amusing and very reminiscent of the heydays of 80's games.
The main problem with the game is the difficulty in controlling your man, it's quite annoying when you fall into a pit and can't get out. The jumping requires lots of practice and even so it may not work the way you want it to.
Also some actions are a bit fixed and can only be performed in a particular way, which takes way a bit of spontaneity.
The sequel would turn out to be much better although I prefer this little game with it's wacky look.
Overall, with a bit of patience and frustration tolerance this can be an enjoyable game.

I played this with my cousin in his amstrad. Good memories till a screen where you had to jump all the way across opposite side. Apparently it was impossible with the pole . So there finished our interest. Nonetheless, we still recognize such a pintoresque game

A more than average game with adventures and exploration probably i n one of the best landscapes one might choose.

I was wondering whether to give it a 3, a 4, or even a 5.(!)
I think I'll be generous . It's the best game other than Danger Mouse or Sabre Wulf with a Jungle to wander. I have to analyze it with more deep because it's impressive . It is sufficiently varied and imaginative.

You don't just shoot anything, but you have at your disposal a complete adventurer scout kit.

Boomerangs and poles = complex phisycs

No more routine Firing!
