Reviews for Nightmare Rally (#3428)

Nightmare Rally is very original and playable racing game. There are 18 stages and you have to finish each of them before time runs out. You must also collect certain amount of points and to do that you have to go the correct way around flags, jump or somersault over hills, drive over cones. There are also special effects like teleports, superturbo, flying and obstacles like trees, bushes, stones and walls. Authors included also various surface types, night driving and fog. Graphics are very good, animation is fast and the engine sound is interesting. Highly recommended!

It's a nice and playable driving game, one of the best released for the Spectrum up to 1986, but from the following year it's been vastly surpassed by Enduro Racer, WEC Le Mans, Power Drift, Chase HQ etc.
One of its limits it's that there are no opponents, just obstacles and rough routes. Or I didnt' see them, anyway.

I found myself greatly confused with this game, but it's from the same writers of Out Run so I suppose I should have expected this to be not great. It's fast I'll give it that but you're just driving endlessly in the hope of not hitting anything and that's tricky at the speed you're going at, and then I lose a life when I hit nothing. So confusing. It tries to be like Deathchase, the problem though is Deathchase is a much better game. It's not terrible, just too confusing for my taste.
