Reviews for Tetris (#5212)

Review by Raphie on 06 Feb 2012 (Rating: 3)

Everyone's favourite falling blocks puzzle game from mother Russia lands its way onto the humble Speccy! Shame its not really that brilliant, its not bad but it has its drawbacks, like the ultra sensitive down button, sometimes two or three blocks come down at once! Also the background interacts with the blocks which makes things a confusing mess.

A number of clones exist and a number of them are more playable and enjoyable than this.

It's Tetris. Need I say more?

Oh, ok. This is an ok version just make sure you turn off those hideous backgrounds. One thing I found annoying is that when dropping a block , it's almost impossible not to drop the next one as well. It's just too darn sensitive!

Too hypersensitive, very frustrating, not a lot of joy.

1987 Mirrorsoft Ltd (UK)
by Peter Jones and David Whittaker

A very good conversion of the classic game, but somehow didn't convince Tetris fans. The ultra sensitive keys are not a big help, neither are the backgrounds, which although pretty, tend to interfere with the playing area. After playing the multi levels on Tetris 2 I finally convinced myself why the original Tetris game alone would never be good enough for the spectrum, besides as scoring points game. You see, the authors tried to make the game more addictive by making different backgrounds, which act like levels, but then again you can skip each and play whichever you want. So where's the motivation?

3,5 points

Forget all the clones and rip-offs - the official version of Tetris is the best, pure and simple, in terms of graphics, sound and - most of all - gameplay available on the Spectrum.

Increasingly difficult as levels go by, Tetris will put your reflexes to the test like few other games of its kind can.

I bought this game ont he first weeks in the market, I though it would become a classic of the computer games, and I was right.

There have been more spectacular tetris, but this gathers the essence, with a very beautiful music.

In my top 25 of the spectrum.
And for sure being this the version of tetris ever made I would consider it a historic game...probably the most historical game ever launched for the spectrum first.

With this presentation, give it a try, you might like tetris, if you have already played other versions this will add almost nothing...but remember it was the first.

Pois bem, até pouco tempo atrás, eu nunca tinha pegado pra jogar Tetris de verdade. Me parecia ok. Ultrapassado, talvez.

This could have been better. Excellent music though.

I think 'This' to be the closest version to the absolute original, that is the one from Alexey Pajitnov. After all, it has the licence. This monumental game is the most well known all time entertainment software, platform aside, so that speaks volumes about it.
You can add pacman or the Mario saga. This ZX version had a great reception. No doubt, very well ported to the Spectrum capabilities. Could it be better? Sure, but It ' s also more than decent

Yes, it could have been better. But Tetris will always be a safe bet

and when I get tired of the second with all its ornaments I go to the classic one, the immortal one
